This course is designed to increase knowledge of tobacco dependence treatment services in health care professionals globally. It is an introductory, e-learning module that has been culturally-adapted in Spanish, Arabic, and English to build capacity in interprofessional healthcare teams.

Course Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of the course, the learner will be able to:

  1. Examine and reflect on the stages of the global epidemic of tobacco use
  2. Demonstrate an understanding of the adverse health consequences of tobacco use
  3. Describe how the neurobiology of tobacco dependence should guide treatment of individuals who use tobacco
  4. Critically assess clinical practice to integrate tobacco dependence treatment in the learners’ setting
  5. Apply the TEACH algorithm to assess tobacco use and tailoring pharmacotherapy
  6. Respond to tobacco users whom are ambivalent about quitting
